I suspect the icons are using the "selected menu items" colours. the help-doofrit might be using the same font-colour. most of the fonts on the scheme currently in use here are black, but the selected items is not, neither are the help text. I am with XP desktop at the moment and bearing it.

initially had the `crash to desktop' problem, which was annoying enough. I browsed around here and found that my Nvidia Geforce mx card was causing the problem. Modern PC GUI desktop environments usually use graphics modes where the pixels are square, but that was not always the case. They fill the vertical space, with acceptable black space either side. I assume that's because I have the default option 'Fit to frame' selected for all my slides and clips.
